About PSD files

PSD is the working file of Adobe Photoshop. Designers send it with mockups, and stock sites sell templates in it. Without Photoshop, Windows, macOS and phones show only a blank icon instead of the picture, and email previews skip it too.

This converter opens each PSD on your device and saves the whole design as a PNG or a JPG. You see the document the way it looks in Photoshop, with every visible layer, effect and adjustment in place. Nothing is uploaded, so you can open client work and unreleased designs safely.

What the composite is

Besides the layers, Photoshop stores one ready flattened copy of the whole image inside a PSD, called the composite. The converter takes that copy, so the result matches Photoshop exactly, even for effects it could not redraw on its own. Layers are not exported one by one, and hidden layers stay hidden.

Some files have no composite. Photoshop skips it when Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility is turned off, and the converter shows an error for such a file instead of an empty picture. To fix it, open Preferences → File Handling in Photoshop, set that option to Always, then open the file and save it again. Photopea and most other editors save the composite on their own.

PNG or JPG

Choose PNG for logos, interface mockups and anything with text or a transparent background: it keeps sharp edges and transparency. Choose JPG for photos and social media posts, where a smaller file matters more. With JPG, transparent areas turn white.

Questions and answers

Is it safe?

Yes. Conversion happens in your browser, and your designs are never uploaded.

Do I need Photoshop?

No. The converter reads the PSD on its own and works on Windows, Mac, Chromebook and phones.

Are layers kept?

No. You get one flattened image that looks the same as the document in Photoshop. Hidden layers stay hidden.

Why does my PSD show a "no merged image" error?

The file was saved with Maximize PSD Compatibility turned off, so it has no flattened image inside. In Photoshop, set Preferences → File Handling → Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility to Always, then save the file again.

Should I pick PNG or JPG?

PNG keeps transparency and sharp text, so it suits logos, mockups and UI. JPG gives a smaller file for photos and social posts.
