About PNG and JPG

PNG is the format your computer and phone use for screenshots, and many design tools export to it by default. It stores every pixel exactly, which makes the files heavy. A single screenshot can weigh several megabytes, too much for some email attachments, chat apps and upload forms with a size limit.

This converter turns PNG images into JPG (also called JPEG). JPG compresses the picture, so a photo usually takes a fraction of the space, and the result opens in any app or website. Screenshots with large areas of flat color shrink less, sometimes not at all, because PNG already stores them efficiently. Drop one image or a whole batch, wait a moment, and download the result. Each image is converted on your device, so the original files are never sent to a server.

JPG is lossy. Photos look the same at a glance, but sharp edges and small text in screenshots can get slightly soft. Keep the PNG if you need a pixel-perfect copy.

JPG has no transparency. If the PNG has a see-through background, it becomes white in the JPG. For logos and icons that need a clear background, keep them as PNG.

Questions and answers

Is it safe?

Yes. Conversion happens in your browser, and your images are never uploaded.

Is JPEG the same as JPG?

Yes. JPG and JPEG are two names for the same format. The files get the .jpg extension, which every app accepts.

Will the JPG be smaller than the PNG?

Usually. Photos saved as PNG often shrink several times over. Screenshots with flat colors and text are already compact as PNG, so the JPG may come out about the same size.

Will the image lose quality?

A little. JPG is lossy, so fine edges and small text can get slightly soft. For everyday sharing the difference is hard to notice.

What happens to a transparent background?

JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas become white. Keep the PNG for logos and icons that need a clear background.
