About JPG and PNG
JPG (also called JPEG) is the format cameras and phones use for photos, because it keeps files small. Some tools still ask for PNG instead: design and slide apps, sticker and icon makers, and upload forms that only accept .png.
This converter turns JPG and JPEG files into PNG. Drop one photo or a whole batch, wait a moment, and download the result. Each photo is converted on your device, so the original files are never sent to a server.
PNG is lossless. The conversion does not bring back detail the JPG lost when it was saved, but from now on the image keeps its quality no matter how many times you edit and save it. The price is size: a PNG of a photo is often several times larger than the JPG.
Converting does not make the background transparent. The PNG keeps the same solid background as the photo, and you can remove it in an editor afterwards. The photo is turned the right way up, while date and location data from the camera are not copied.
Questions and answers
Is it safe?
Yes. Conversion happens in your browser, and your photos are never uploaded.
Will the background become transparent?
No. A JPG has no transparency to carry over, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. Remove it in an editor afterwards if you need to.
Does PNG make the photo look better?
No. Detail lost when the JPG was saved does not come back. PNG is lossless, so the image will not lose any more quality when you edit and save it again.
Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression. For photos the file is often several times bigger than the JPG.
Will my photo be rotated the wrong way?
No. The orientation saved by your camera is applied, so the PNG looks the way the photo does in your gallery. Date and location data are not copied.
